Well, I am back from my trip to the Midwest. For those of you that were playing the guessing game the correct answer was Ann Arbor, MI home of the Michigan Wolverines. Also, the home of the Big House. I actually visited Michigan and Illinois. For those of you who have never had the pleasure of driving in Illinois I offer this advice: DON’T!!! First of all the roads are worse than PA’s (if that is possible). Secondly you have to stop every 5 miles and pay a toll. It makes no sense. Anywho….

It looks like I may actually have a weekend off. This is big for me. It means I can do anything I want. Sleep is high on my list right now. I may venture into Pittsburgh at some point to get my monthly dose of real human contact. Work does not count since I can’t tell doctors what I really think of them. My opinion of their profession is dropping quickly. “I don’t understand why this doesn’t work. I mean I ignored the instructions properly. It should know what I want.” Uggg

Ok, time for my random rant.
I take exception to those making the following statements:
1) We should stop going into space. We haven’t learned anything directly from going there.
2) The astronauts would want us to stop.

Ok, I agree that we should re-evaluate the shuttle itself but canceling manned trips is just plain stupid. Humans are at base curious creatures. If there is a dark hole someplace you can bet a human will wonder what is in it and stick their head in to look. Curiosity didn’t kill the cat, it maimed man. But, if we look back we would see that almost all of humanity’s great accomplishments came at the expense of some amount of human life. Not a pleasant thought but truth. What would have happened if we stopped sailing the first time a ship sank? As harsh as this statement sounds we learn from our mistakes. Maybe this will bring about a novel design for a new shuttle. It’s long overdue anyway.

What happened was tragic but saying that canceling the program would “honor the memories” (An expert on CNN today actually said this) of the seven members is ridiculous. All you have to do is look back to the Challenger disaster to see that. Advancement without risk and loss is and ideal that does not exist in the real world. Anyone in the scientific field will tell you this.

Ok, I am done now. Not a complete argument but I am tired from driving a arguing with doctors. Time for bed.
