I’ve learned a few things the last few days. First off, asphalt is very hard! Second, dirt is not as hard once you slow down a bit. Maybe I should explain.
I had a motorcycle accident on Thursday. I was driving home from work and I hit a patch of something (either oil, dirt, loose rock) during a turn and the back tire of my bike let loose and the road became my own personal slip-and-slide at about 45 mph. However, if you were to look at me right now you wouldn’t know anything happened to me. I walked away without a scratch, cut, or broken bone. I credit this to the equipment I was wearing and luck. A big thank you goes out to all of the people that came to the assistance of someone that they had never met before. Esp. Steve. Steve talked me down until the police and EMT’s arrived. Apparently I was a tad wound up :) Anywho, after a panic attack (it felt like my whole body was on pins and needles and it was hard to talk or breathe) on the way to the hospital and 2.5 hours of nerves I was given a clean bill of health and a bag full of pain medication. Happily I haven’t had to use it yet. The only part of me that is still hurting at all is my pride.
The good news is that I am ok and the insurance will take care of fixing the bike. I will ride again! I can’t explain why this is important to me but it is. Guess it’s a “conquer your fear” type of thing.
The ER staff was great! They were actually kind of funny. I guess when they heard a motorcycle accident was coming in they expected the worst. So when I showed up they were a bit surprised that I didn’t even have road rash. Sorry to disappoint….;)
Other than that life has been kinda bland. I’m getting ready for a short week next week. I’m heading to Richmond to visit a friend from college and go to the NASCAR race. Mmmmm….fast cars, southern girls (w/ accents), and alcohol. Can’t wait.
Well, I guess that’s all for now. Later
