WOW! Didn’t realize that soooo much time had past since my last entry. Lets get caught up in list form!
1) Been to PSU twice since. Had fun both times. Spent WAY more than I am used to on a bottle of alcohol. But it was for a special occasion so it was ok ;) Was told that I will be (and I quote) “Really good boyfriend material…in like 2 years.” Hmmmm
2) Work has been an exciting experience lately. I feel that I am actually doing engineering work now. Things I suggest are actually being given consideration! Lots of reports, calculations, conference calls, etc…
3) If I ever hang anything on my fridge it will be with nail, not magnets. (I’ll explain later)
4) Decided I don’t need to get a bigger car just yet. Dad and I figured a way to fit Loki’s cage in my little Integra. This is VERY happy news for me.
5) Am enjoying the gym much more now. Due to recent membership drive I am no longer the weakest guy there! ;P Plus, new women to meet.
Ok, those are the most interesting things to happen the last few weeks. See how dull?
Now, on to the magnet issue. Last week I spent the ENTIRE work week working on the interaction between two solenoids with metal cores and a magnet. I got to learn how to model them and run simulations and shade them and everything. I now know more than I ever wanted to know about latching force, and field direction, and a whole host of properties that magnets have. Say it with me - High Br good, low Curie temp bad. Two weeks ago I would have assumed the person saying this was stoned. Now I nod and say, “Yes, but what is the max operational temp you can achieve with NdFeb and SmCo 1:5 given those stipulations?” I had this conversation with about a dozen magnet suppliers. Sounds fun but it really wasn’t. So, that is why I won’t use magnets ever again ;)
The PSU trips were very “educational” on sooo many levels. I found out that you do get what you pay for when it comes to champagne. I also rediscovered why I promised myself I would never drink Everclear ever again. My brother’s roommate made a version of jungle juice that was very potent. It has a special name but I forget what they call it. It had vodka, burbon, rum, grain alcohol, fruit juice, fruit slices and a few other things. VERY STRONG!! But, it did loosen everyone up.
I also came to the realization that I was not on the same page with some of my friends. But life goes on…. So, on with the show.
Tomorrow I will be heading of to a concert after work. It’s a low dough show hosted by The X. Should be interesting. Plus, I will be seeing Jimmy Eat World on Saturday. They will be playing Movin On at PSU. Movin On is an event held every spring semester to celebrate the end of school. Hopefully it won’t rain (like it always seems to do in State College) and ruin the fun.
Well, that’s the recent past, present, and near future state of affairs for me.
Oh, if you get the chance to try Weyerbacher Imperial Stout don’t let it slip by you. It is amazing.
Ok, time to wrap this up and decide what to do with the rest of my evening.
