Ok, catch up time!
My Earliest Memories
The earliest "clear" memories I have are from when I lived in Danville. I don't know in what order these happened but I know they happened :)
1) I remember my father and a neighbor going down to the stream close to our house to catch a snapping turtle. Apparently the thought was that the turtle would emerge from the stream and try to drag the children off to work the turtle mines or something. In any event to catch the turtle they used a small log to tempt the turtle with. The turtle latched onto said log and they carried it off to somewhere else. Never did see it again.
2) I remember my next door neighbor, Mr. Forney, taking me to the local fire hall (that just happened to have a bar in it) to play punch bingo. Most of those memories are hazy though, maybe due it part to the smoke and smell of beer. It didn't bother me so long as I won something, and I always did. Huh, me thinks the game was rigged ;)
and 3) Burning my forehead on the charcoal grill. This I remember VERY well. I was driving my little go-cart around the driveway and somehow ended up stopping directly under the stupid grill. Then I stood up and used my head to check the temperature of the grill. At that age red coals are NOT a good indicator for temp. I mean my go-cart was red, and it didn't burn. After I touched the grill the memory gets cloudy. To hear my mom and dad tell it I decided that the best course of action was to stand there and scream rather than remove my head from the grill. This explains a lot about me I guess :)
